Maple Leafs holding second interviews with Roy, Laviolette

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their coaching recruitment process, and it sounds like there's still a couple of big names in the running. TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Patrick Roy and Peter Laviolette are among two of the candidates who have made it on to the next stage of the process.

John Chayka and Mats Sundin had been holding zoom calls the past few weeks with roughly 20 candidates and now the next stage of the process includes face-to-face interviews with several members of the Maple Leafs' organization.

Laviolette was recently a guest on Leafs Morning Take, and it's quite obvious he's chomping at the bit to get back behind an NHL bench, and coaching in Toronto is certainly something that's on his radar:

Meanwhile, Roy was fired with just four games left this season. The hall-of-fame goaltender went 42-31-5 behind the bench with the Islanders this season. He went 97-78-22 over parts of three years, having taken over from Lane Lambert midway through the 2023-24 season.

Who wins the job? Who does Leafs Nation want to see behind Toronto's bench? Either of these two are big names who can handle the pressure and bright lights, so it makes sense they're still very much in the running.
