Don’t expect this to be finalized until the morning, but there is word the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning are working on a sign-and-trade for Darren Raddysh.
The 30-year-old defenceman had a breakthrough 2025-26 with 22 goals and 70 points
At the point of filing, it's unknown what the return to the Lightning will be, or what Raddysh will sign for as a Leaf. There's been a ton of trade speculation around Nick Robertson and Morgan Rielly, so we'll see if both Leafs are included in the deal.
The Maple Leafs are landing one of the best free-agents on the market, and with another trade, John Chayka is fast-tracking his retool. Raddysh set career highs last season with 22 goals, 48 assists for 70 points, playing close to 23 minutes per night, in 73 regular season games.
Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin recently commented on Raddysh as one of the biggest free agents to be, and had this to say, “Raddysh has never even earned $1 million in a season. His next contract will be a true life-changer, so Tampa’s offer will have to be significant in dollars and term to keep him from going to market,” Larkin wrote. “Why wouldn’t you if you were Raddysh?"
Confirming that Toronto and Tampa Bay are finalizing a sign-and-trade involving pending UFA Darren Raddysh.

Hearing that it will be an eight-year deal with an AAV in the 8's (north of $8 million).
More details to come, but I’m hearing Tampa Bay is getting a late round pick back. Raddysh was a primary target for Toronto. https://t.co/Cwv6wNS7A0

The Maple Leafs' blueline will look much different next season and that's exactly what their core wants. William Nylander and Auston Matthews both mentioned during their exit intervews that the team needed more mobile defencemen, who can advance the puck and join the rush. Raddysh immediately gives the Leafs power play the bomb they've always needed from the right side, and it will be curious to see how much Toronto improves next season.
