NHLTR Mock Trade: Dylan Larkin Dealt to Utah Mammoth in 6-Piece Trade

Dylan Larkin's days as a Detroit Red Wing are coming to an end, and word is he's increased his teams of interest. There's been multiple reports surfacing over the weekend that Steve Yzerman connected with Larkin's agent and got them to agree to add a few more teams to his original list of three teams. Trade talks now include the Utah Mammoth, and they've quickly become a favorite to land Larkin.

The Athletic's Max Bultman and Corey Pronman recently commented on potential Larkin deals and see a deal with the Mammoth has a legit possibility. Considering Utah's farm system, they may have actually sprung up as a latest favorite to entice Yzerman and Larkin.

NHLTR Mock Trade: Larkin and Sebastian Cossa to the Mammoth for Tij Iginla, Cole Beaudoin, Barrett Hayton, and a 2027 second-round pick.

This deal would be two fold as the Mammoth are not only looking to land a top-line forward, they also see Cossa as a perfect 1-B tandem partner for Karel Vejmelka. The Red Wings would be landing an absolute haul with Iginla and Beaudoin both having serious potential as former first-round picks. Iginla projects to be a top-line winger, meanwhile Beaudoin projects to be a shut-down third-line physical center.

Hayton gives the Red Wings someone they can insert immediately, and adding another pick never hurts. If you compare this deal to Quinn Hughes, four pieces went to Vancouver. Bultman and Pronman see this deal gaining steam:

Pronman: Utah can clearly offer the most compelling package to Detroit, given its plethora of premium young assets. We didn’t include Caleb Desnoyers or Dmitri Simashev, as it would be tough to get Utah to include them, but center Cole Beaudoin could certainly be in this deal. Iginla is a legit projected top-six scorer, and Hayton is a quality NHL center.

Bultman: If Larkin deems Utah an acceptable destination, its system is by far the best of the teams listed here, which makes it an appealing partner for Detroit.

Desnoyers would, of course, be the ideal, but Iginla is still an intriguing young scorer for the top six. Hayton isn’t splashy, but he’s a plug-and-play pivot with some runway to find more production. The 2027 first isn’t locked into a draft spot, which could be a pro or a con, considering the Mammoth would be much more dangerous with Larkin.

Thoughts on the deal, let us know in the comments.
