Senators Ready To Move On From RFA Jordan Spence

Ottawa Senators RFA defenseman Jordan Spence

One year ago, on day two of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Ottawa Senators sent two later round picks to the Los Angeles Kings in return for young right-shot defenseman Jordan Spence.

But it sounds like his run in Ottawa could be finished after one season, as the Sens look to move the 25-year-old.

"I've heard that the Ottawa Senators wouldn't have a problem moving Jordan Spence," said Irfaan Gaffar of Daily Faceoff. Insider David Pagnotta acknowledged the same.

"They've been a little disappointed in his performance this season, even though I know the LA Kings are screaming that they let him go for draft picks. But it hasn't really worked out in Ottawa. And he was somebody that they were listening on at the deadline," Pagnotta said.

A right-shot d-man is Senators priority this summer; Spence could be moved

"(Ottawa) wants to upgrade that right side. They want to bring in a top-four right-side defenseman, that's mobile, verstatile, but also has a bit of physicality to his game. That's a priority for GM Steve Staios."

Spence is a restricted free agent, and is offer sheet eligible. He recorded seven goals and 31 points this season, with a plus/minus rating of +15.

Spence struggled at the beginning of the season, being healthy scratched on some occasions. But when injuries hit late in the season on the Ottawa blueline, Spence was moved up the depth chart, and logged some major ice time, including several games around the 27 minute mark, and one contest he even topped the 30 minute mark.

Nevertheless, it appears that his days in Ottawa could be numbered.
