The Winnipeg Jets and restricted free agent Cole Perfetti have avoided arbitration, with a five-year deal carrying a $6 million AAV.

The $30M agreement is an excellent deal for both sides. It runs through the 2030-31 season, when the player will be 29 and an unrestricted free agent. He was coming off a two-year bridge contract at a $3.25 million AAV.

Perfetti had injury troubles last season and finished with a disappointing 12 goals and 32 points in 68 games.

After the Jets disappointing season came to an end back in April, the young forward expressed his desire to stay in Winnipeg for the long haul.

"That would obviously be great,” Perfetti said at the time. “That would be a real honour to have the team show that and express that faith in you as a player and as a person.”

He added that his summer will be full of hard work.

“You want to be that guy that is able to step up for your team and help and contribute and drive lines. It’s not easy to do that. So it’s going to be a long summer of work and making sure that when I come back in September, I can take that next step and really drive a line.”

The 24-year-old showed his promise with 18 and 19 goal seasons in the two years before this past one. He was the 10th overall pick by Winnipeg in the 2020 NHL Draft.

In 290 regular-season games, Perfetti has totalled 59 goals and 98 assists for 157 points, while adding another six points in 14 playoff games.
