The Edmonton Oilers are ponying up a five-year free agent deal for Pittsburgh Penguins breakout defenseman Ryan Shea.

First dropped by Spittin' Chiclets, and now confirmed by Elliotte Friedman, it's a five-year deal for Shea, with a $4 million AAV. A huge $20M deal for the 29-year-old.

Shea had been playing on a series of one-year deals, all well under the $1M mark, and largely in the AHL, until his big season on the Pittsburgh blueline this past year.

He set new personal bests with six goals, 29 assists, and 35 points, along with 18:53 average time on ice, and an impressive plus/minus rating of +30. He was also a key contributor on Pittsburgh's penalty-killing unit.

It's a strong move for the Oil to fill out their defense corps after trading Darnell Nurse today
