Sharks Sign Jacob Trouba To 4-Year Deal

The San Jose Sharks are making a major addition on the blue line, signing Jacob Trouba as they continue trying to move out of the rebuilding swamp.

Per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Trouba is signing with San Jose on a four-year deal worth $8.25 million per season. PuckPedia also lists the contract at four years and $33 million total, running through the 2029-30 season.

Trouba spent last season with the Anaheim Ducks and had 10 goals and 35 points in 81 games. The 32-year-old also averaged heavy minutes at five-on-five and on the penalty kill.

Why Trouba Fits The Sharks

This is a clear veteran swing by San Jose. Trouba is not being brought in as a subtle depth piece.

At that term and cap hit, the Sharks are paying him to play real minutes, bring physicality, kill penalties, and really help stabilize a defense group that allowed 290 goals last season.

There is risk here, obviously. Four years for a 32-year-old defenseman at $8.25 million per season is not exactly a casual little errand. But the Sharks had cap space, a very young core, and a big need for veteran support around their defense.
