Report: Seattle Kraken Open To Trading Shane Wright
David Pagnotta: Re Shane Wright future/Kraken: They're not gonna package him up just move him out for another young piece; that's not what they wanna do, they wanna use him as a primary piece for a big fish - Sekeres & Price (9/3)
As hockey insider David Pagnotta pointed out, the Kraken aren't looking to just give up on Wright and give him away for another young, unproven talent. Instead, Seattle tried to move him for Artemi Panarin last year and that was kyboshed, and then this summer, the Kraken tried to include him in trades for both Jordan Kyrou and Jason Robertson, but unfortunately, both deals fell through.
Wright, 22, is entering the final year of his entry-level contract that pays him just under $900,000 AAV. He'll be a pending restricted free agent at season's end, and for now, don't expect to see any bridge deals offered Wright's way.
The former No.1 pick appeared in 74 games last season, scoring 12 goals, and adding 15 assists, for 27 points. He played 13:48 per game, and while the numbers seem a bit low considering Wright's a former top pick, when you're not even playing second-line minutes, everyone the league isn't sure how exactly the Kraken are going to see progress.
For now, Wright remains in Seattle, but don't be surprised to see the Kraken in the mix once another big name hits the trade market. So far, Dylan Larkin doesn't want to play out west and isn't interested in becoming a Kraken.
