Report: Flyers In Tough Spot To Trade Travis Konecny

The 2026-27 Philadelphia Flyers have been historically bad under head coach Rick Tocchet. With a 0-6-3 start to the year, they look bad.

Tocchet's inability to start the year with a winning record hasn't helped him this week, as he's had multiple gaffes and has arguably mistreated future NHL superstar Matvei Michkov. In addition to his slow start, needless to say, fans are unhappy, and the team has scheduled time with Tocchet and the fans to smooth over the angst that has been apparent.

The dissension within the organization continues, as rumors have been swirling of frustration with Konecny, who has been a reliable top-six forward on the team. Since the start of the year, the picture has changed, as he's fallen out of favor.

Leading to the team exploring a trade elsewhere, should GM Danny Briere find a way to convince the former 71-point forward of waving his no-trade clause.

Konecny, in addition to his NMC, has another issue that could stop teams from making a deal with Briere, as Konecny has an $8.7 million AAV cap hit. In five games, the 5-foot-10, 192-pound forward has only produced three points, with a minus-4 rating.

That's Tocchet hockey for you.

While it'd be smart for the team to deal their expensive contracts and get back to rebuilding a team that was once thought to be fringe contenders last season, Anthony Di Marco noted that Briere has been getting calls from other NHL GMs in order to "help" him.

But instead of being able to deal in a position of strength, they're using Philadelphia as a dumping ground, which suggests Briere will be making his next trade from a position of weakness.

The Flyers could make multiple moves to change their current trajectory, and none of them seem good.
