Intriguing New Red Wings Development In Larkin & Edvinsson Situations
I learned yesterday that there's also an appetite from Detroit's perspective to try and lump those players together, not going to the same team, but those two trades happening virtually at the same time so that Detroit can cover all of its bases and move forward.
He adds that that might not be realistic, however. For the Red Wings, there's no urgency to get a Larkin trade done, but for Edvinsson, there is a December 1st deadline—if the RFA is not signed by them, he's ineligible to play in the NHL this season.
We know that the Red Wings have been adamant about receiving a legit young center as one of the pieces, since they'd be losing Larkin. It had become apparent in recent weeks that they'd be fine receiving that from an Edvinsson deal, if not as part of the return in a Larkin trade. This new development, if the inexperienced Horcoff can whip up a small miracle, makes sense: they would try to address all of their requirements for their lineup in one fell swoop by negotiating and completing both trades at the same time.
Different frontrunners have been suggested for each player, so it's highly unlikely that Horcoff would be able to get something done for the two of them with one team.
The Minnesota Wild remain the most likely landing spot for Larkin, especially if he does not open up his 10-team trade list to some of the other clubs that the Wings have suggested have better deals for them.
For Edvinsson, the San Jose Sharks remain the most serious bidder.
"There are fair offers, but there are no home run offers for the two of them," added Dreger.
