Report: Sharks & Red Wings Continue To Discuss Blockbuster Trade

Shawn Horcoff and Mike Grier have known each other for decades, and now, both are running hockey teams and could be making a massive trade together in the very near future. The Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks have been discussing a blockbuster trade, centered around disgruntled Red Wings' defenceman Simon Edvinsson.

Edvinsson continues to sit out this season without a contract, and the frustration has boiled over, as Steve Yzerman left the biggest mess possible for Horcoff to clean up. Edvinsson is a former top pick, he's a beast, skates like the wind, and has top-pair potential written all over him for the next 10 years. The Sharks are lurking and see blood in the water.
Pierre LeBrun: Re Simon Edvinsson: [The Sharks] think he'd be a great fit; if you're Detroit and you're looking at San Jose, there's some pretty intriguing options up front there...not named Macklin Celebrini of course; some interesting targets - Insider Trading (10/27)

Reports have surfaced that the Sharks are willing to include recent first-round picks not named Ivar Stenberg, and the Red Wings seem to be going hard after Michael Misa and Keaton Verhoeff. The Sharks have a boat load of young talent that they can offer, so it's going to be interesting to see how many pieces head to Motown if this deal gets finalized.

The Red Wings continue to work through the mess, as Dylan Larkin is currently sitting out waiting to be moved as well, with talks heating up recently with the Washington Capitals. There isn't a world where both get moved together, but if one team has the resources, financially, and with trade capital, it's the Sharks.

Are Edvinsson and Larkin two players worth banking on if your Mike Grier? It would cost San Jose at least six assets to get the deal done, plus multiple draft picks.
