RUMOR: Arizona centreman on the market?

While few names have been mentioned on the trade market as portential bait, one new name will without a doubt draw plenty of inquiries by other teams.

A new name this time around is forward Derek Stepan. If he gets traded this will be the second time this year. After spending 7 seasons with the New York Rangers, he was shipped out alongside with goaltender Antti Raanta in exchange for Anthony DeAngelo and a 2017 first round pick, who turned out to be Lias Andersson.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman speculated on Wednesday during a segment on Vancouver's Sportsnet 650 that if the Coyotes put Stepan on the trade market, they could draw an enormous amount of attention of rival teams. Since several NHL teams are hunting for a quality centreman before the trade deadline.

Friedman added that the Buffalo Sabres aren't willing to move Jack Eichel or Ryan O'Reilly and according to him, teams will be in trouble if they target another player from this roster.

And unless you think Sam Reinhart is a center, he's probably not the answer to your question either, Friedman stated during the interview.

So far this season, Stepan notched 3 goals and 12 points in 24 games. If he was traded the Coyotes could acquire an interesting return.
