Minnesota Wild Kirill Kaprizov Receives Contract Offer From KHL

The Minnesota Wild are start getting worried as super-rookie Kirill Kaprizov rejected the team's latest contract and is now receiving offers from then KHL.

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Kaprizov has an offer from CSKA Moscow and the Wild have been made aware of the situation. Of course they have, it's likely a negotiating tactic and one that should work.

The Wild have been playing hardball with Kaprizov as he's let them know he's only interested in a short-term deal and not for the max eight years. He's interested in three years according to LeBrun. Wild general manager Bill Guerin admitted earlier this month that contract talks were not going well and had hit a wall.

As per reports:

The Wild drafted Kaprizov 135th overall in 2015. He spent five seasons in the KHL - including three with CSKA Moscow - before venturing to North America. He notched 51 points in 55 games during his electric NHL debut to help Minnesota secure a playoff spot.

The Wild have over $26 million in offseason cap space to lock in a new deal for Kaprizov, according to CapFriendly. But Minnesota's financial situation gets tighter after next season: The recent buyouts of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise will count for over $12.7 million in dead cap space in 2022-23 and more than $14.7 million from 2023-25.
