Calgary Flames: 2 Prospects Who Should Make The Team Next Season

Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.

In this article, we will be looking at the Calgary Flames. A lot of Calgary's high-potential prospects are still quite young and will likely need a little more time before playing in the NHL. However, there are two older prospects who are very likely to make the team next season. Although they may not have as much hype, they should still be serviceable.

Connor Mackey D: After a strong collegiate career with Minnesota State University, Mankato, Connor Mackey began his professional hockey journey this past season. With the Stockton Heat, he provided solid offense, as he scored three goals and recorded 16 points. He also played six games with the Flames, where he scored a goal and had three total points. He also plays with a physical edge and has gotten into multiple fights in the NHL already. Head coach Darryl Sutter is known for liking players like this, so expect to see Mackey more often next season.

Adam Ružička C: Adam Ružička could fight his way into a fourth-line spot with the team next season. The 6'4" forward can play both center and on the wing, so the Flames have multiple options with him. In 28 games with the Heat this season, he scored 11 goals and recorded 21 points. He also had an assist in three games with the Flames. At a minimum, Ružička should be a call-up from the AHL whenever injuries occur. He not only is a strong player, but also has been noted for his solid passing ability. Now seems like the perfect time to give the 22-year-old a chance.
