3 Edmonton Oilers Who Probably Won't Be Back Next Season

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly going all-in this season as they try to make a long playoff run. Regardless of the outcome, within a salary cap world they won't be able to bring back everyone next season. Let's take a look at some players who are likely in their final season in Edmonton.

3 Oilers Likely Finished After This Season

Kyle Turris: This is basically a guarantee as Turris has struggled in his time in Edmonton. The team was hopeful when they signed him after his buy out that he could come in and be that proto-typical third-line center, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case at all. Last season he only recorded five points in 27 games and this year it's been worse, only producing two points in 16 games. Turris may not last this season in Edmonton, and don't expect to see him back in 2022.

Mikko Koskinen: After starting this season in stellar fashion, the Finnish netminder has struggled of late. He's a pending free agent who is making way to much money for the type of production the Oilers are receiving. Koskinen has appeared in 18 games and has posted a 3.16 GAA and a .902 save %. Look for the Oilers to give Stuart Skinner a look next season to be the full-time backup or they will sign a veteran in the offseason. One things for sure, Koskinen won't be back.

Tyson Barrie: The mobile defenseman is a surprising name that's come up recently in trade talks as the team is apparently willing to give Evan Bouchard more ice-time and is now looking to shed Barrie's contract. He's making $4.5 million over the next two seasons beyond this year and with the holes up front and in their crease, the Oilers can parlay Barrie with their first-round pick to land a game-changing player. Of the three mentioned in this list, he's the most likely to come back but keep an eye on his name as general manager Ken Holland works the phones before the trade deadline this year and into next summer.
