NHL Rumors: Canadiens Likely To Move Defenseman

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to trade defenseman Brett Kulak by the deadline, according to David Pagnotta.

It wouldn't be surprising at all to see Kulak moved by the Canadiens. They currently have an 8-25-7 record, so they are clearly not in contention for the playoffs. Furthermore, the 28-year-old has an expiring contract and will be eligible for unrestricted free agency over the summer. With all of this, it makes sense for the Canadiens to trade the pending UFA for a draft pick.

Kulak would probably work best as a depth defenseman on a playoff team. However, he also is capable of playing bottom-pair minutes if needed, too. Either way, he would come in handy for teams looking to go on a run, as injuries and illnesses appear frequently.

In 34 games this season, Kulak has a goal, eight points, and a minus-11 rating. He hasn't necessarily been taking the world by storm, but he isn't expected to be an offensive juggernaut, either.

It will be interesting to see where Kulak ends up from here.
