NHL Rumors: Latest on Anton Khudobin Trade Out of Dallas

The Dallas Stars continue to work the phones as they try to facilitate a trade for goaltender Anton Khudobin. The veteran netminder was waived last month, went unclaimed and now a trade is on the horizon. Jeff Marek of Sportsnet was the first to report the trade buzz out of Dallas.

The Stars have elected to go with Braden Holtby and Jake Oettinger the rest of this season and Khudobin and his $3.33 million contract this season and next are on the block. He does hold no-trade protection as he submits a list of four teams he would like to avoid. Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports that the Stars have received a ton of calls but it's clear they will need to retain some salary to get a team to agree to a deal.

The goalie market is expected to pick up this month as many of hockey's best insiders feel with the post holiday freeze over and the worst of the pandemic hopefully behind us, that trades will pick up including netminders.

Khudobin has been linked to a few teams including the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, and Washington Capitals. So far in 2021-22, Khudobin is 3-3-0 with a 3.73 goals against average and a .873 save %. Since being sent down to the American Hockey League's Texas Stars, he's managed to improve his numbers posting a 2.80 GAA and a .890 save %.  Makes sense why the Stars would need to retain money as his production has dropped off considerably. Consensus at this point is he ends up with the Avalanche in Denver.
