Lightning Bring Back Forward

The Tampa Bay Lightning have claimed Gemel Smith off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.

This isn't too surprising to see, as the Red Wings originally acquired Smith from the Lightning in the same manner. Due to this fact, Tampa Bay can send Smith down to the AHL without having to place him on waivers again.

With the Red Wings, Smith recorded one assist and had a minus-2 rating in three contests. Now that he is back with the Lightning, he should once again be utilized as an extra forward for them. In eight games over two seasons with Tampa Bay, he had one goal, three assists, and 15 penalty minutes.

With how frequently injuries occur in the NHL, it is understandable why the Lightning have decided to bring Smith back. He has proven throughout his career that he can be useful as a depth guy, so we could see him get some time on the fourth line. Furthermore, he is a familiar face, and that is something that shouldn't be overlooked, either.

Nevertheless, Smith is right back where he began the season. Let's see how the 27-year-old performs from here.
