Capitals Sign Forward Prospect

The Washington Capitals have signed prospect Henry Rybinski to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Rybinski was originally selected by the Florida Panthers with the 136th-overall selection of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. However, they were unable to reach an agreement this past summer, so the 20-year-old was able to become an unrestricted free agent. Now, the Capitals have given the Vancouver native his first NHL contract.

Rybinski is quietly having a very solid season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. In 39 games thus far, he has 18 goals, 36 assists, and a plus-29 rating. Overall, he is showing noticeable signs of improvement, as he had a 28-point campaign in 23 games just last season.

The Capitals are an older team and are not necessarily known for having the strongest of prospect pools. Thus, it is wise for them to take a chance on Rybinski. The young center has the potential to develop into a decent NHLer, and they didn't have to give up anything to secure him.
