Flames And Canadiens Complete Trade

The Montreal Canadiens have traded Michael McNiven to the Calgary Flames for future considerations.

With the Laval Rocket now running a tandem of Cayden Primeau and Kevin Poulin, McNiven's spot with the AHL team has been dropped. This occurred when the Canadiens acquired Andrew Hammond from the Minnesota Wild. The Hamburglar took Primeau's backup job with the NHL team, which led to the latter being sent back down to the AHL.

McNiven has spent the majority of this season with the Rocket. In 11 appearances with the team, he sported a 4-4-1 record, .869 save percentage, and 4.04 goals-against average. He also played in one game with the Canadiens, where he allowed three goals on just seven shots.

McNiven will provide the Flames with more goalie depth moving forward. This is the second trade these two teams have made this season, as they of course agreed on the big Tyler Toffoli deal last month.
