Tampa Bay Lightning Sign Prospect

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Bennett MacArthur to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 season.

MacArthur is currently playing for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL. In 26 games thus far, the 21-year-old has 25 goals, 18 assists, and a plus-18 rating. This is a nice follow-up to last year's campaign, as he had 28 goals and 40 points in 33 games that season. Overall, the 6'1" left winger clearly is a strong goal-scorer at the junior level, so it will be intriguing to see if it translate over to the NHL.

The Lightning have had a lot of success when it comes to undrafted QMJHL players. For example, Yanni Gourde emerged as a key part of their back-to-back Stanley Cup championship teams. They also have Alex Barre-Boulet who is trying to cement himself a permanent role in the NHL. In 16 games this season, he has three goals and three assists.

Nevertheless, the Lightning have added to their prospect pool, and MacArthur may have the potential to be a strong player for them. Overall, there's no harm in them giving him a chance.
