Breaking News: Vegas Names Bruce Cassidy As New Head Coach

Just eight days after being relieved of his coaching duties with the Boston Bruins,  Bruce Cassidy has been named the new head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights.

It was a shocker when the Bruins let Cassidy go just last week, but the 57-year-old said at the time that he'd be back coaching "as soon as possible." And now, just eight days later, he's got a shiny new gig.

Cassidy had already spoken to a number of teams just days after his Boston pink slip, and he was linked to Vegas as recently as three days ago.

In six seasons behind the Bruins bench, Cassidy sported an impressive 245-108-46 record, six straight playoff appearances, and a narrow 7-game defeat in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2019.

The Golden Knights parted ways with coach Peter DeBoer this spring after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in its short history.
