NHL Rumors: DeBoer Is A "Legit" Candidate For Western Conference Team

After losing his job with the Vegas Golden Knights, Peter DeBoer is among the most sought-after coaches on the market. According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, he is now a "legit" candidate for the Dallas Stars' open bench boss role.

"I had several people tell me that they think DeBoer is a legit candidate of interest in Dallas," said Friedman on his latest 32 Thoughts podcast.

But Friedman also admits that former Boston Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy unexpectedly joining the ranks of the unemployed has left a lot of teams rethinking their head coaching search.

"Who wouldn't be interested in Cassidy?," Friedman continued. Adding to the Barry Trotz availability, "This has thrown a wrench a lot of people didn't expect."

Rick Bowness stepped away from the Stars' job last month after just two years behind the Dallas bench.

As for DeBoer, he compiled an impressive 98-50-12 in his three seasons in Vegas. He has also been rumored as a possibility for the Detroit Red Wings job. But whether in Dallas, Detroit or elsewhere, he should find himself coaching in the NHL again before long.
