Oilers Place Goaltender On Unconditional Waivers

Last week, it was reported that the Edmonton Oilers were expected to terminate Ilya Konovalov's contract. Now, that is officially coming to fruition, as the team has placed him on unconditional waivers for that very purpose. The 23-year-old is now officially returning to the KHL.

Konovalov just completed his first season of North American hockey. Unfortunately for him, he never received a call-up to the Oilers. In 17 games with the Bakersfield Condors, he had a 2.73 GAA and .893 SV%. With these numbers, it's fair to say that he had his struggles.

With the Oilers having serious troubles in goal, it isn't ideal for them to lose a prospect like Konovalov. Yet, that is now officially happening with this. Let's see if they go after a goalie prospect this summer because of it.
