NHL Rumors: Stars Interested In Blackhawks Star Player

The Dallas Stars' biggest need at the trade deadline this season is a top-six forward. There are a number of them out there, but they could be in on an unexpected star player - Patrick Kane, per Elliotte Friedman. The Stars are firmly in a playoff spot right now and could use someone for their second line so that they can have better depth.

The team's forward depth isn't great, but the top players have led them to many wins already. The Stars also don't have a ton of cap space to work with, which means that one or two of their depth forwards earning too much money would have to be shipped out.

If Kane decides he wants to be traded this season by the Chicago Blackhawks and the Stars are one of the teams he is willing to go to for a playoff run, half of Kane's cap hit will have to be retained. That way the Stars would only have to free up $5.25 million or use a third team to complete the trade. It will cost them either way, but Denis Gurianov and Radek Faksa are the two players who would have to be on the move.

Gurianov makes $2.9 million and is a RFA at the end of the season. He has just two goals and six points in 31 games. The Stars would benefit even more by trading Faksa considering he is under contract through 2024-25 at $3.25 million AAV. He has just four goals and eight points in 47 game. The Stars will need that cap space this offseason and beyond, so it's best to move that out now.

Kane would fit nicely on a line with Jamie Benn and Wyatt Johnston or Tyler Seguin and Mason Marchment. Then the Stars would have three very good lines and be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.
