Montreal Canadiens Rumors: Defenseman Expected to be Traded

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to have an eventful summer. After being among the worst teams in the NHL yet again in 2022-23, GM Kent Hughes is expected to listen to offers for some of his veterans. One player who is emerging as a prime trade candidate is Joel Edmundson.

The Canadiens were open to moving Edmundson before the trade deadline, but a move did not come to fruition. However, with teams having more money to work with during the summer due to expiring contracts, it is quite possible that the Canadiens could find him a new home fairly quickly. Keep in mind, several teams were linked to him leading up to the deadline day as well.

Teams looking for a steady defensive defenseman who plays a physical game will surely be interested in Edmundson this summer. In 61 games this year with the Canadiens, the 6-foot-5 defenseman had two goals to go along with 13 points. Look for teams like the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Calgary Flames to be in the mix for his services.
