New York Islanders Sign Forward to PTO Contract

The New York Islanders have signed forward Jackson Cates to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Cates, 25, appeared in five games for the Philadelphia Flyers last season, where he failed to get on the scoresheet. He primarily played in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he posted 11 goals to go along with 23 points.

Overall, Cates has the potential to be a decent depth forward for the Islanders, if he earns himself a contract, of course. Although a spot in the Islanders' bottom six is likely not in the cards, he would a candidate for a call-up when injuries arise.

In 20 career NHL games over three seasons with the Flyers, Cates has posted one goal and one assist. We will need to wait and see if he gets the chance to improve upon these numbers as an Islander in 2023-24 from here.
