Flames Rumors: New Team Linked to Chris Tanev

When looking at the trade candidates leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev is among the most notable. It is understandable, as he is an experienced shutdown defenseman who can play top-four minutes. Because of this, there has been a ton of interest in him for multiple months now, and that is only going to increase as we get closer to the deadline.

Some teams who have been connected to Tanev this season include the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New Jersey Devils. Yet, it appears that a new club has entered the sweepstakes, as Bruce Garrioch recently reported that the Los Angeles Kings have also expressed interest in him.

When noting that the Kings are rapidly dropping in the standings due to horrible play, it makes sense that they are looking to make some adjustments to their blueline. They have won only two out of their last 16 games, so bringing in a reliable shutdown defenseman like Tanev certainly could help them get back on track.

Tanev would be a fit on their bottom pairing and work beautifully on their penalty kill if acquired. With that, he would also give them another excellent leader in their room.

We will now need to wait and see if Tanev ends up heading to Los Angeles before the deadline passes from here.
