3 Montreal Canadiens Contract Extension Candidates
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.
To kick this series off, let's take a look at the Montreal Canadiens.
Joel Armia
Armia was the subject of trade rumors throughout the season, but the Canadiens decided to keep the pending unrestricted free agent for the remainder. They clearly like him as a player, so it is fair to wonder if they could look to sign him to an extension. He has provided the Habs with solid secondary scoring and strong defensive play in the bottom six, so it wouldn't hurt to keep him around at a lower price
David Savard
Like Armia, Savard generated a ton of buzz as a trade candidate at the deadline, but the Canadiens did not trade him. The Canadiens value what he provides to their blueline, so he is another veteran who they could try to extend as they look to take that next step.
Jakub Dobes
Dobes has been a nice surprise for the Canadiens this season. After being recalled in late December, Dobes has been quite solid for Montreal. In 11 games, the 23-year-old has a 6-3-1 record, a .913 save percentage, and a 2.49 goals-against average. With numbers like these, it would not be surprising if the Canadiens looked to extend the pending restricted free agent early.
