Breaking: Rick Tocchet Officially Has His Next Head Coaching Role

Breaking NHL News: According to sources, Rick Tocchet is on the verge of accepting the head coaching job of the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to a few realiable sources Wednesday morning, it appears that Rick Tocchet is on the verge of accepting the head coaching role for the team with which he starred on the ice for so many years, the Philadelphia Flyers.

Two notable insiders, Elliotte Friedman and Frank Seravalli, have both put it out there that while the exact timing is still up in the air, the Flyers are "closing in" on hiring Tocchet for the job. Seravalli says it is trending to be done "in short order."

We learned on Tuesday that three teams were strong contenders to win Tocchet's services, but now it seems that the Flyers are his inevitable choice, over the Boston Bruins and the Seattle Kraken.

**Update: The Flyers have made the signing official **

Rick Tocchet's new contract with Flyers will be massive

Just how large that contract will be is the next big question. Seravalli told us recently that Tocchet's new deal, wherever it might end up, "is going to be a game-changer." Likely north of $6M or even $6.5M per year.

The 61-year-old Tocchet led the Vancouver Canucks to a 108-65-27 mark for a .608 points percentage over the last three years. In his nine seasons as an NHL head coach, he has compiled a 286-265-87 record.

Tocchet was a three-time All-Star in his 11 years as a player for the Flyers, scoring 40 goals twice for them, 30 goals four times, and compiling over 150 penalty minutes eight times with Philly.
