Maple Leafs News: Auston Matthews Opens Up On His Scoring Difficulties
Auston Matthews, the Toronto Maple Leafs' 70-goal scorer last season (including one in the playoffs), is struggling mightily to find his shot—and the net—in this postseason. Needless to say, this fact has not gone unnoticed by Leafs Nation, or the superstar player himself. He finally opened up about it on Monday.
Matthews has just two goals in 10 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs on their current playoff run, clearly far below expectations. His shooting percentage, which is 15.8% for his career, is sitting at a woeful 5.7% in these playoffs.
Is he injured? Is he forcing it? What does the three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner think is going on? He talked about it on Monday:

Is he feeling snakebitten? Per The Leafs Nation, in short: Yes.
“A little bit,” Matthews said. “The chances have been there, I think I just gotta do a better job of bearing down on some of them. For the most part throughout the four games, we’ve been winning shifts, generating chances against tough matchups. Obviously, you wanna score, I wanna score, but we’ll continue to get those opportunities and capitalize and go from there.”
Matthews' record in post-first-round playoff games is getting downright embarrassing.

Puck Empire notes that the Leafs captain has zero goals in nine career second-round postseason games. Toronto fans are starting to panic.

Sure would be nice if Auston Matthews who is the highest paid player in the NHL at $13.25M would grab ahold of his team like the highest paid player in the league is supposed to do. #LeafsForever
