Winnipeg Jets Make Huge Move With Top Prospect Brayden Yager Ahead of Crucial Game 6

NHL News: The Winnipeg Jets, ahead of Game 6 vs. the St. Louis Blues, have recalled top prospect Brayden Yager

The Winnipeg Jets are getting set for a huge Game 6 against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night, and have made a big roster move. The Jets have recalled top prospect Brayden Yager Friday morning.

The 20-year-old has been recalled from the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes after their season ended Thursday night, being eliminated by the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Brayden Yager recalled, joins Winnipeg Jets taxi squad

For now, Yager has joined the Jets' taxi squad back in Winnipeg—with whom he was skating this morning—rather than being with the team in St. Louis. But with the Jets up 3 games to 2 in the series, either way, he'll be there when the team returns, either headed to the second round, or for a critical Game 7. At that point, he'll get to experience the drama and urgency of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Yager, who was acquired by the Jets in the big preseason prospect trade for Rutger McGroarty, totalled 82 points in 54 games between Lethbridge and Moose Jaw this season, and added another 14 points in 16 playoff games.

As noted by Jets insider Dave Minuk, the team did the same thing exactly 10 years ago with a then-19-year-old Nikolaj Ehlers, their top prospect at the time. Although he didn't get into any playoff games that spring, the experience helped springboard him into a tremendous decade with the team.

In a related development, Ehlers may be about to rejoin the Jets lineup for the first time this series.

Mike McIntyre reports that Ehlers has shed his non-contact and is in a regular sweater for the first time.
