NHL News: Blackhawks Re-Sign Ryan Donato To Multi-Year Deal

Ryan Donato picked a good time to have himself a career year, recording 31 goals and 62 points, both of which doubled his previous bests. As a pending unrestricted free agent, Donato doubled his paycheck as well, signing an extension with the Chicago Blackhawks on a four-year, $16 million deal ($4 million AAV).

The 29-year-old will continue to be one of the more senior voices in the Blackhawks locker room going forward as they look to take the next steps in their rebuild.

Donato brings versatility and physicality to the Chicago forward corps, in addition to his veteran scoring ability. He handed out 104 hits for the second straight year, and is able to play all three forward spots. He blossomed this season playing on the Hawks' second line.

“Ryan brings energy and competes hard every game, which has been a huge asset to our team over the last two seasons, said GM Kyle Davidson in annoucning Donato's contract extension. "He’s been a crucial part of our offense, and we’re excited for Ryan to continue to make a difference in our lineup for the next four years.”

Before his breakout season, Donato had hovered around the 14-goal, 30-point mark for the previous few seasons. He wrapped a two-year, $4 million deal ($2M AAV) this spring.

He was a second-round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Draft, and after playing a year and a half in Beantown, he spent time with the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and Seattle Kraken before spending the last two years in Chicago.
