Robertson, 24, spent most of this season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 60 games with the AHL squad, he scored a goal and set new career highs with 24 assists and 25 points. Overall, it was a nice step in the right direction for the 6-foot-4 defenseman, and he will look to build off it after landing this two-year extension with the Rangers next season.
Robertson also played in his first two career NHL games this season with the Rangers. During them, he recorded zero points, one block, two hits, and a plus-3 rating in 17:38 of average ice time.
When looking at the Rangers' current roster, it is fair to argue that Robertson has a shot of being at least an extra defensemen on their NHL roster next season. However, if he impresses, he could even get more consideration to receive bottom-pairing minutes for the Rangers.
Overall, the potential for Robertson to become an NHL-caliber defenseman is there, so it is not too surprising to see that the Rangers have decided to keep him around with this two-year contract extension. It will be fascinating to see what kind of season he has in 2025-26 from here.
