Commentator Reveals Trash-Talking Has Reached New Level In This Stanley Cup Finals

Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl hits Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad during 2025 Stanley Cup Finals game.

The 2025 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers has turned into an all-out war on the scoreboard and in the chirping department.

What started as a fiery rematch has morphed into a deeply personal grudge match, with players reportedly crossing lines that were previously off-limits. TSN’s James Duthie says the level of trash talk is “unprecedented,” as both teams go far beyond the usual on-ice banter.

History and Hatred Fuel Verbal Warfare

The bad blood runs deep. Florida embarrassed Edmonton in last year’s Final, and the Panthers’ reputation for playing 'dirty', now with Brad Marchand in the mix, has only fanned the flames. Oilers players are reportedly chirping Aaron Ekblad over a past steroid suspension and Tkachuk over his reputation for avoiding fights.

Meanwhile, Panthers are firing back at Edmonton's Corey Perry and Evander Kane, dredging up personal controversies in a psychological arms race.

Cup, Pride, and Mind Games

With the series tied and a potential Game 7 looming, emotions are peaking. Even Connor McDavid’s wife joined the fray online, calling Florida “rats.”

Every player is trying to gain a mental edge, whether it’s by rattling the opponent or using the insults as fuel.
