3 Potential Free Agent Destinations For Victor Olofsson
Victor Olofsson is still there as a free agent and at this point, he's not going to get a great contract. He played most of his career on non-competitive Buffalo Sabres teams before spending last season with the Vegas Golden Knights, finally appearing in the playoffs and doing well. The veteran scorer plays a clean game and can put the puck in the back of the net, something many teams would like to add for cheap this offseason.
Montreal Canadiens
While the Montreal Canadiens have a handful of players that are capable of staying healthy and contributing all season, there are also those on the team that are very prone to injury and to miss significant portions of the season. I'm talking about Kirby Dach and Patrik Laine. That's a good amount of scoring that comes out of the lineup when those two go down, so Olofsson, who scored 15 goals in 56 games last season and is a three-time 20-goal scorer, can make up for some of it. And if everyone is healthy, that's a lot more scoring overall.
New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils have done a good job changing their bottom-6 as at least four new faces will be in the lineup including Evgenii Dadonov, Connor Brown, Arseny Gritsyuk, and Juho Lammikko. Not all of them will be everyday players or are confirmed to even make the NHL roster right at the start. Olofsson provides another more trusted bottom-6 scorer who can play on the second power play. Scoring was a big concern for the bottom of the lineup in New Jersey and Olofsson is one of the only clear solutions left. The Devils still have a good amount of money left, but he won't need much more than $1 million AAV at most.
Toronto Maple Leafs
It is odd to think that the Toronto Maple Leafs have over $5 million in projected cap space for next season, so why not make another addition and still save some for mid-season acquisitions closer to the trade deadline? The Maple Leafs aren't the healthiest group and there is a roster spot if Vinni Lettieri gets bumped to the AHL to begin the season. The wings in the bottom-6 aren't the greatest and Olofsson would boost the second or even first power-play unit. There's no harm in adding one more piece to round out the roster as there's no internal help coming just yet.
