Breaking NHL News: Lukas Dostal Announces Long-Term Extension with Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have locked up a crucial part of their future for the long term, signing goaltender Lukas Dostal to a five-year extension. The goalie made the announcement himself on the team's social media platform:

It's a five-year deal with a $6.5 million AAV. It's a huge deal for the young netminder, as AFP Analytics had projected him at coming in with a four-year contract worth $5.2 AAV. He blew past that, which the consulting firm credits to the massive amount of cap space the Ducks had available. The deal comes just days before arbitration hearings around the NHL were set to begin.

Dostal, 25, has become a legit starter between the pipes, and this past season started 49 games, posting a .903 save percentage for the Ducks.

He was a third-round pick of Anaheim in the 2018 NHL Draft. In 121 games combined over parts of four seasons with the Ducks, he has a .902 Sv% with a 3.29 goals against average for the rebuilding team.

“Lukas has proven he is a No. 1 goaltender and we are so pleased to get this deal done,” said Duck general manager Pat Verbeek in a statement. “He is just entering the prime of his career with his best hockey ahead of him.”

The Ducks made big strides this past season, gaining 21 points in the standings to finish with 80 points, and are fully intent on taking that next big step into the playoffs this coming year.
