Penguins Insider Proposes Trade Kings & Pittsburgh Should Make

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell celebrates goal during 2025 game.

Pittsburgh Penguins insider Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now believes there’s a trade to be made between Pittsburgh and the Los Angeles Kingsand Rickard Rakell is the centerpiece.

In a recent Q&A for Pittsburgh Hockey Now, Kingerski proposed a package of a first-round pick and forward Alex Turcotte as a potential deal from the Kings, though he was clear it still wouldn’t be quite enough for Pittsburgh’s liking.

Kings Urged to Trade for Penguins Forward Rickard Rakell

Rakell, a two-time 30-goal scorer with a complete 200-foot game, still holds strong trade value despite a down year. Kingerski suggests that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas is aiming higher than a depth forward like Turcotte, who has struggled to cement an NHL role since being drafted fifth overall in 2019.

Dubas reportedly wants a "promising young player or a top-tier prospect" on top of a quality pick. That means the Kings, or any other interested team, would likely need to sweeten the offer if they hope to pry Rakell loose.

While Rakell trade chatter has picked up, Kingerski emphasized that Dubas is holding firm on valuations, not just for Rakell but for other players like Erik Karlsson, who could also be on the move depending on salary retention.
