Domi's Fit and Future in Question
Domi recorded 33 points in 74 games last season and remains a fan favorite, but his one-dimensional game and lack of defensive impact have left many analysts questioning his long-term fit. He's still a player who can play above his contract, but isn’t a strong enough two-way presence to justify his cap hit in the bottom six.
With three years left on his deal, a trade to a middling team seeking secondary offense could be a win-win.

Cap Clearing Could Extend Beyond Domi
Domi isn’t the only forward the Leafs may look to move. David Kämpf and Calle Järnkrok are also potential trade chips. Kämpf carries a $2.4 million AAV for two more seasons but offers little offensive upside. Järnkrok, with one year at $2.1 million, might be more attractive to a team looking to stabilize its third line.
Moving one or more of these contracts would give Toronto added flexibility to chase a legit replacement for Mitch Marner, whom they sent to the Vegas Golden Knights in a sign-and-trade that brought back Nicolas Roy.

Eyes Still on a Top-Six Addition
Despite adding Roy and signing Mattias Maccelli, GM Brad Treliving made it clear the Maple Leafs still aim to land another top-line weapon. “Mitch was a top-six forward, and we haven’t replaced that hole,” Treliving said.
With few appealing free agents left on the board, a trade remains the likeliest route, possibly funded by moving out Domi or another depth forward.
