NHL Rumors: Sharks' Mario Ferraro Open To Change of Scenery
According to The Fourth Period, the 27-year-old blueliner is open to a change of scenery as he enters the final season of his four-year, $13 million contract. While Ferraro hasn’t formally requested a trade, San Jose appears willing to move him after adding three new defensemen this offseason.
I guess Mario Ferraro will be traded. Just not sure if in the off-season or before the TDL. However, Ferraro's repuation is definitely higher than should. Will any team trade a first round pick to get Ferraro? pic.twitter.com/TlvP3uEJVf

Contenders Showing Interest in Ferraro
Ferraro, ranked No. 9 on TFP’s Summer Trade List, is drawing interest from multiple playoff-caliber teams. The Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Winnipeg Jets, and Calgary Flames are all linked as potential suitors.
San Jose’s high asking price (reportedly a first-round pick) has previously made a deal difficult, but with Ferraro set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026, the team could be more flexible now.

The stay-at-home defenseman has been a consistent presence on a rebuilding Sharks roster, often playing in roles higher than his ideal slot as a No. 4 or No. 5 defenseman on a contending team. Ferraro, who brings toughness and shot-blocking ability, logged five goals and 12 assists in 78 games last season.
Sharks Balancing Rebuild and Trade Value
Ferraro has become a fan favorite in San Jose for his passion on the ice and leadership during the team’s lengthy rebuild, even earning the Media Good Guy award in consecutive seasons. However, with the Sharks continuing to invest in young talent like Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Michael Misa, moving Ferraro for future assets could align with GM Mike Grier’s long-term vision.
Teams that previously inquired about Ferraro during the season are expected to revisit those conversations as training camp approaches.
