It is not too surprising to see the Avalanche sign Manson to a contract extension. The right-shot defenseman is a solid part of their blueline, and he will continue to be for multiple more years after landing this nice contract extension.
Manson is entering the final season of his current deal, where he has a $4.5 million AAV. Thus, the Avalanche have managed to extend Manson at a cheaper AAV than his current one, which is certainly not a bad thing in the slightest.
Manson recorded one goal, 14 assists, 15 points, 105 hits, and a minus-6 rating in 48 games this past season with the Avalanche. In 173 games over four seasons with the Central Division club, he has posted 13 goals, 44 assists, 57 points, 234 blocks, 443 hits, and a plus-7 rating.
Manson was selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the 160th overall pick of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In 626 career NHL games over 11 seasons, the 6-foot-3 defenseman has recorded 39 goals, 131 assists, 170 points, 1,526 hits, and a plus-46 rating.
