NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Teams In Talks To Acquire Penguins' Rickard Rakell
The Pittsburgh Penguins are open for business and have entered sell mode this summer.
President Kyle Dubas is trying to make his roster younger, and could very well be using this season to replenish a slew of draft picks and build out his farm system, while the team transitions its core. Veteran forward Rickard Rakell has been all over trade rumblings recently, and could be moved this offseason.
Rakell, 32, has three seasons left on his deal at $5 million AAV. He owns a 10-team no-trade clause and will have some say in the matter. Rakell scored 35 goals and 70 points last season, which was a career high. He's averaged 24 goals and 29 assists throughout his 13-year career.
As far as potential trade destinations go, the Carolina Hurricanes still have plenty of cap space to fit in Rakell into their plans for next season and are looking to boost their scoring from the wing. The same can be said about the Montreal Canadiens, who have already made some bold moves this summer, and are looking to get back into the playoffs next season and take a giant step forward with their young core.
Another team to keep an eye on are Rakell's former team, the Anaheim Ducks. GM Pat Verbeek is in buy mode and has loads of cap space to fit in Rakell, without having to get rid of anyone off his NHL roster. It's going to come down to what Dubas wants in return, as apparently trade talks have been ongoing since the season ended, this according to Josh Yohe of The Athletic.
