NHL Trade Rumors: New York Islanders Moving Ilya Sorokin?

The New York Islanders have made some huge trades already this summer, and there could be another one coming, this time involving goaltender Ilya Sorokin.

According to Frank Seravalli, the Islanders have held conversations around Sorokin of late. The soon-to-be 30-year-old appeared in 61 games for the Isles last season, posting a 30-24-26 record, along with a 2.69 goals against average and .907 save percentage. It was considered a down season for the Russian netminder, as the Islanders failed to make the playoffs.

Sorokin is under contract at $8.25 million AAV through the 2031-32 season. As of now, his contract carries a full no-movement clause, so Sorokin is certainly going to control his own destiny. This isn't the first time the Islanders have been involved in trade talks surrounding Sorokin, it's just to this point, they haven't appeared to ask him to waive his no-movement clause.

As far as potential destinations go, the Edmonton Oilers jump out as an option. The Oilers are looking to upgrade at the position, and Sorokin would be a significant addition. Two other teams to keep an eye on are the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Utah Mammoth. Both teams are trying to make the playoffs next season, and Sorokin would certainly be a huge boost to their roster.

The Islanders are looking towards the future, having moved number-one defenceman Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens for two first-round picks, meanwhile they have two first-round picks already for the 2026 NHL Draft and could get another one in the package they were to receive for Sorokin.
