Ryan Reaves Calls Out Maple Leafs Following Trade from Toronto

Ryan Reaves calls out Maple Leafs for a lack of trust leading to his departure

Ryan Reaves' days as a Toronto Maple Leaf enforcer came to an unceremonious end this past week with his trade to the San Jose Sharks.

When he met with the media to discuss his Toronto departure, Reaves called out the Leafs for fracturing his relationship with the team by a 'lack of trust.'

I think there was just a lack of trust very early in the season. It just looked like [if] I had one bad game, I was out of the lineup for four, five, six, seven, eight, nine games. I'd come back in, have a good game, but taken right back out. I just really could never gain any momentum with my game, couldn't really gain any traction.

His time with the Buds was cut short with one year still to run on a three-year deal that paid him $1.35 million annually. In March, he was waived and then sent down to the Marlies in the AHL in a cap-clearing move. He never returned to the Leafs lineup again. He made sure that would stay the case when he approached GM Brad Treliving after the season.

"I told Brad at the end of the year, I just thought that this wasn't, obviously, a good fit," Reaves said. "I'm assuming he probably thought the same after putting me on waivers and sending me to the minors, and just thought it was kind of time to part ways."

Reaves totaled just eight points in 84 games across two seasons in Toronto, along with 268 hits and a minus-15 rating.

He was traded to the Sharks two days ago for defenseman Henry Thrun.
