Vancouver Canucks Rejected Multiple Elias Pettersson Trade Offers

Elias Pettersson isn't going anywhere.

The Vancouver Canucks listened to several trade offers over the course of the last few weeks and decided to bank on the former first-round pick hitting the reset button next season. With July 1 arriving, Pettersson's no-movement clause has officially kicked in, and he will not be traded by the Canucks.

The 26-year-old forward is signed through the 2031-32 season at $11.6 million AAV, a hefty price tag for a player who struggled on and off the ice last season. Vancouver was drama central throughout the 2024-25 season, and they hope with some departures, the dressing room can be reset, and Pettersson will be a major part of their success next season.

The likes of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Anaheim Ducks, and Carolina Hurricanes all had trade interest and were involved in talks.

Pettersson recorded 15 goals and 45 points in 64 games last season, one of the worst seasons of his career. What may be more concerning is when the games matter the most in the playoffs, Pettersson's track record isn't great. He's recorded just one goal in his last 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Canucks are expected to lose Brock Boeser to free agency on Tuesday, with the Oilers, Jets and Bruins down to the final three teams. There's also talk that Quinn Hughes could be traded, so it makes sense for Vancouver's management to bank on Pettersson being a major part of their core moving forward.

The Canucks have $7 million in cap space to work with, and are going to look to improve their top six once the free-agent market opens at noon on Tuesday.
