It's a one-year deal at $1.825 million, just above the midway point of the two sides' submitted arbitration numbers. They had been a million apart, at $1.2M vs $2.25M. He will be an RFA again next summer at the age of 24.
Robertson has struggled to earn significant playing time with the Leafs over his five years with the team (partly due to injuries and partly due to performance), but in limited action over the past two years, the sniper has been able to register 14 and 15 goals. The 23-year-old has averaged only 11:28 ice time per game in his young career. This past season, he finished with 22 points in 69 games.
The agreement on Aug. 2nd is an improvement over last summer, when it took until mid-September to get him to sign on the dotted line after an offseason of acrimony in which the RFA threatened to not re-sign with the Leafs and hoped to be traded due to his frustration with his perceived lack of opportunity with the team.
But opportunity has never been greater for the scoring winger, as the Leafs will need to find any additional offense somewhere in the lineup with the loss of Mitch Marner. Robertson should be a regular part of the top nine and chip in at least to help fill the void.
