Canucks Make A Lot Of Sense For Top UFA To Sign

Jack Roslovic, Carolina Hurricanes
The Vancouver Canucks did next to nothing this offseason besides bring back Brock Boeser and acquire Evander Kane. That isn't enough for a team that was outside of the playoff picture last season and is not only trying to get back in, but win a Stanley Cup.

The Canucks moved Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs this offseason and freed up cap space, but have yet to do anything with it. Down the middle at center is where the team is the weakest, so they need to be looking for someone who can at least be an option to play that position. The team waited through free agency without targeting any of the best options, but lucky for them, there is one left who could make an impact.

Frank Seravalli said that the Canucks would make a lot of sense for Jack Roslovic. The team has just over $3.25 million to spend, and if they replace a depth player with Roslovic on the roster, over $4 million. That should be enough to entice the top remaining UFA forward, especially given he could have an easy path to a top-6 role on the wing or second line center role.

The Canucks aren't a bad team, but they aren't good either. A fair bit has to go well for them to even finish top three in the division. Roslovic will likely be looking for a multi-year deal, but could also go the one-year route and look for a better offer next season as well. He scored 22 goals and 39 points last season for the Carolina Hurricanes while averaging under 14 minutes per game. The 28-year-old was also 54.1% on faceoffs.

Almost all of his production came at 5-on-5, so that makes him valuable as every team is always looking for players who can produce on a shift-to-shift basis. The Canucks will very likely be making one more addition this offseason and Roslovic seems like the right choice if they can't pull off a big trade.
