Free Agent Jakub Vrana Leaving NHL for Sweden

The NHL free-agent market is uber thin at the moment, as most players have signed on for next season the last five weeks. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Jakub Vrana, who hasn't landed a contract, and is now going to make his way to Europe.

Linkoping HC of the Swedish Hockey League announced on Friday that they've signed Vrana to a two-year contract.

Vrana hasn't played in Sweden since his teenage years. Before heading over to the NHL, the Czechia native played parts of three years in the top division in Sweden before joining the Washington Capitals for the 2014-15 season.

The former first rounder has gone through his ups and downs as an NHLer and unfortunately, wasn't on any teams radar for a one-year contract, however if it waited, could have signed a professional tryout agreement with an invitation to training camp.

After a stop in St. Louis and Detroit, Vrana made his way back to Washington last season, however was claimed on waivers by the Nashville Predators in March. Spanning over nine NHL seasons, the talented winger has appeared in 406 games, scored 119 goals, and 223 points.
