NHL Trade Rumors: Latest on Minnesota Wild Dealing RFA Marco Rossi

The Minnesota Wild appear to be in a stand off with restricted free-agent forward Marco Rossi. The 2020 first-round pick scored 24 goals and 60 points in 82 games last season, good for second on the team in scoring.

So far this summer, there's been plenty of trade rumors circulating around Minnesota, and even GM Bill Guerin going as far as saying he'd love to see a team try to offer sheet Rossi, as the team is ready to match whatever comes their way. The fact is, Rossi doesn't have a contract for next season, and the 23-year-old's future with the franchise appears to be in doubt. The Wild have over $9 million in cap space to work with, but Guerin has been careful how he spends his money, as it's been years since Minnesota actually had money to work with under the cap.

Daily Faceoff's Anthony DiMarco was asked recently about what's going on in Minnesota with Rossi, and had this to say in a recent mailbag:

As for Marco Rossi, it is no secret that Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin has been open to trading the 2020 first-round pick. Rossi’s camp had been rumored to be looking for a long-term deal in the $49 million range at seven years; it doesn’t seem like the Wild feels comfortable with that at this juncture. A bridge deal similar to Cole Perfetti’s with the Winnipeg Jets could be a decent comparable for what we can see with Rossi when the dust settles.

DiMarco went on to say at this point, he doesn't feel Rossi gets moved before the season starts, which does make some sense, considering the rumors have been swirling for months, so if a deal was to transpire, you figure it would have happened by now.
