It didn't look too serious at first, but further evaluation has determined that Seattle Kraken top line forward Kaapo Kakko has suffered a broken hand and will be out for six weeks.

The six-week timeline would put the 24-year-old Finn on the shelf until after the first week of November. With that, Kakko could miss the Kraken's first 14 games of the season.
The injury occurred when he was slashed in an exhibition game earlier this week by Edmonton Oilers defense prospect Beau Akey.

Akey received a two-minute penalty on the play, but it'll cost Kakko much more time than that.
Kakko to miss six weeks with broken hand
Kakko came over to Seattle in a trade from the New York Rangers last season in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen. The former No. 2 overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft wasn't making the kind of progress the Rangers had hoped.
But their impatience paid off for the Kraken, who were pretty quick to install Kakko on the top line with Matty Beniers and Jaden Schwartz. He rewarded them with 10 goals and 30 points in 49 games, the best stretch of his six-year NHL career. He averaged 17:03 of ice time per night with Seattle, nearly four minutes a game more than he had with the Rangers.
As a restricted free agent this summer, he signed a three-year, $13.58 million extension with the Kraken, with a $4.525 million AAV.
In 379 NHL games, the two-way forward has 161 points with a +2 rating.
